What is aggregation?
The term "aggregation" is familiar to physicians and IT specialists, but the observant person can assume that he is somehow connected with the word "aggregate".On whether this is so and what is aggregation in general, read in our article.
The following is a general interpretation of the word aggregation, the interpretation of aggregation in the IT field and in biology.
The word "aggregation", like many others, came tous from the Latin language, where "aggregatio" literally means "joining". Aggregation in the general sense is the unification of various elements into a single system. Indeed, the word "aggregation" is a relative of the "aggregate", since the aggregate in the general sense is a device formed from composite elements.
Aggregation in Biology
Biologists use the term "aggregation" forthe designation of the process of uniting, or coalescence, of individual cells into one formation. This can occur in the course of scientific experiments, and with the usual development of multicellular organisms. And in medicine there is such a thing as the aggregation of platelets (blood cells). This is one of the components of the normal process of blood coagulation, but sometimes the acceleration of platelet aggregation leads to an unhealthy slowdown of blood flow. More details about this you can find in our article Thick blood what to do.
Aggregation in IT
In the field of information technology, the term"Aggregation" or "aggregation" is most often applied to data transmission channels. To connect one server to the network in this case, several network ports are used, but the system perceives them as a single logical channel for data transmission. This technique allows increasing the bandwidth and stability of the connection: even if one port fails, the data can be transmitted over the remaining channels.
