In order not to be mistaken with the purchase of a ring (especially expensive), it is important to know your finger size exactly. The inconvenience is only in the fact that size does not always remain the same throughout life: fingers, like all other parts of the body, can lose weight and get better, and the ring that suited you a few years ago may not be enough today or is great.
That is why in order to find the ring that best suits you, you need to know your current finger size. This can be done both at home and directly in the jewelry store or in the jewelry store.
Of course, the most accurate way to determine the size is in the store, but it is not always convenient and, moreover, it is not always possible - for example, in those cases when you want to buy a ring as a gift. That is why many prefer to first determine the size of a finger at home (even if it will be only an example). You can learn more about the part of such methods in the article How to determine the size of a finger.
Determine the size of the ring at home
Before you learn how to determine the size of a finger at home, do not forget that with such methods, different errors are very likely. This should be taken into account with further purchase.
Remember that the ring must pass through the joint - this is important for people with massive joints, which are often larger than the finger itself. Keep in mind that the size may vary due to the temperature and humidity in the room, often depending on the time of day. It is best to measure your finger at noon. You can learn about other recommendations from the article How to find out the size of a ring.
And we will look at several ways to determine the size:
For the first method, you will need a thick thread about 50 cm long.
- Wrap it on the selected finger 5 times - tight, but not too tight.
- Then cross both ends of the thread and cut them at the same time or simply mark the place of their intersection with a marker or pen, then unwind the thread and cut along such marks.
- Use a ruler or a measuring tape to find out the length of the cut thread in millimeters, and then divide it by 15.7. This will be your ring size.Important! The size needs to be rounded up to half a centimeter. That is, if you got 16.2 mm, round this number to 16.5.
Another simple way is to try on any other ring. Put it as far as possible on the finger, mark this place, and then ask the jeweler to measure the finger where it is marked.
How to find out the size of a finger for a gift
But what if you want to buy a ring not for yourself, but for your loved one? The easiest option is to take one of the rings your girlfriend or boyfriend is already wearing, take it to the store and ask the jeweler to find a ring of a similar size.
If you think that your loved one will notice the loss and the surprise will not succeed, try another way. Place the ring on a piece of paper and draw a pen around its inner contour. Or, roll the paper into a tube, slide it into the ring, and then fasten it. You will need to take the paper to the jeweler so that he can pick up the ring of the desired size.
After that, all you have to do is choose the right ring of the right size. Do not forget that different rings are suitable for everyone: for example, on wide fingers narrow rings do not look too good, and massive rings do not go to everyone.
